Show Up

Standard

I know there are many people who struggle with the belief in God (I have been there). Some of us have the attitude, when I see it, I will believe it. But I have come to learn over the years, it’s actually quite the opposite; when you believe it, you will see it. I can tell you, truthfully, that I have so many experiences to justify my belief in God. These miracles started showing up when I started showing up, when I made the choice to believe FIRST. Things started going my way, because I put my faith and trust in God first. Life is easier now because I know that I am constantly being guided by a higher power. The stronger my belief is, the better I am becoming emotionally, spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and financially. When a situation comes about, I keep in mind that God is in control and has a plan. So I ask you this simple question:  what do you have to lose? If you are not satisfied, you can go back to the way you were living. I can promise you that you have so much to gain and life will be more fulfilling and will seem effortless when you MAKE GOD PRIORITY.  ~dp

Excellence vs. Perfection

Standard

I have always believed perfectionism was a good thing and that we must strive to be perfect in everything we do. I have discovered that perfection is not attainable and that no one is perfect (except for our Creator). Life can be very frustrating for a perfectionist. I know, because I am a recovering perfectionist. Before, I wanted my life to be perfect, but now, my goal is to be happy. I continue to learn to be the best I can be and achieve what I can at the highest level possible (excellence) which is good enough for me!  Psychologist Thomas Greenspon quoted the following differences between excellence and perfectionism in his book, “Moving Past Perfect:

  • “Excellence is risk. Perfection is fear.
  • Excellence is effort. Perfection is anger and frustration.
  • Excellence is openness to being wrong. Perfection is having to be right.
  • Excellence is spontaneity. Perfection is control.
  • Excellence is flow. Perfectionism is pressure.
  • Excellence is confidence. Perfectionism is doubt.
  • Excellence is a journey. Perfectionism is destination.
  • Excellence is acceptance. Perfectionism is judgement.
  • Excellence is encouraging. Perfection is criticizing.”

Here are a few more to consider that I’ve read elsewhere:

  • Excellence is surrender. Perfectionism is consuming.
  • Excellence is trust. Perfection is selfishness.

Dr. Greenspon also stated, “Perfectionism does not determine success — talent, energy, and commitment do.  Perfectionists are successful despite their perfectionism — not because of it.”

You Can Move Mountains!

Positive thinking is when we have faith and trust in the guiding hand of the universe. Faith is belief not based on proof. Confidence, self-assurance, and certainty is having faith. Faith is when we allow everything to unfold exactly the way it should. It’s not about everything turning out the way we want it to. It’s about accepting things no matter how it turns out. When there is absence of fear and doubt, and when we let go of resistance and control, we can learn to trust and have faith.

Voices in Your Head

Standard

Many of us have multiple voices in our heads. Sometimes, those voices can be extremely convincing and believable. I want to caution you that there is really only one voice that is authentic and real that you should pay attention to. The voice that speaks to you softly with love and gentleness is the one to trust and believe. This voice works in conjunction with your intuition and will lift your spirit and encourage you to follow your heart.  It will never be demanding or critical, cause fear or disorder, or bring up past issues.  Choose to listen to that quiet, still, small voice. ❤

What Are You Afraid of?

Standard

Fear

Fear is the most unpleasant, distressing, painful feeling anyone can experience. Fear is caused by worry or thought of possible danger, evil, or a threat. Fears may come from personal history and/or can be learned from experiences.  Wikipedia provided the top 10 types in the U.S. by a 2005 Gallup poll and Bill Tancer’s published list in 2008:

“In a 2005 Gallup poll (U.S.A.), a national sample of adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 were asked what they feared the most. The question was open-ended and participants were able to say whatever they wanted. The top ten fears were, in order: terrorist attacks, spiders, death, being a failure, war, criminal or gang violence, being alone, the future, and nuclear war.

In an estimate of what people fear the most, book author Bill Tancer analyzed the most frequent online queries that involved the phrase, “fear of…” following the assumption that people tend to seek information on the issues that concern them the most. His top ten list of fears published 2008 consisted of flying, heights, clowns, intimacy, death, rejection, people, snakes, failure, and driving.”

By understanding and confronting your fears (also called exposure therapy), you can gain better control of your life. You have the courage to overcome your fears. Most importantly, have faith and trust in God and in yourself that everything will be all right.

I Do

Standard

My daughter recently announced she is getting married next May, so this prompted me to post something about marriage.  I am so excited; I love to see two people get married.  If you want to spend the rest of your life with one particular person, and you can totally trust that person, why not get married?  If it’s because of financial reasons, children involved, or just plain being selfish, or any other excuse for that matter, then is it a genuine relationship?  No relationships are perfect, because no two individuals are exactly alike in every way.  The question is, can you live with these differences?  I found this article on:  https://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/marriage.

Closed Door

Standard

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, “when one door closes another door opens.”  We have to remember that when that door closes, everything is going to be fine.  Our Creator intended to close that door for a very good purpose.  Sometimes we tend to forget and become anxious and discouraged.  We need to be patient and have faith and trust until the other door is opened.  There is perfect timing for everything.  We should be grateful for closed doors and opened doors.  Because our Creator would never close one door without opening another.

Take Action!

Standard

Here is one of my favorite quotes:  “Action speaks louder than words.”  Some people like to sit around all day long and boast about what they are going to do and even provide the details.  We can talk a big talk, but when it comes down to it, do you actually accomplish what you say you are going to do?

If you want people to trust you, then when you make a commitment to someone, you need to make every effort to fulfill that promise.  Before making that commitment, you need to be sure you really want to do it and if it is possible.  It is not the thought that counts… it is the action that proves your loyalty.
