Lean on Each Other

Standard

So a dear friend of mine and co-worker was recently diagnosed with a huge brain tumor.  She went into surgery on a Monday for prep work which took 3 hours, and on Tuesday she had an approximate 8-hour operation to remove the tumor.  On Wednesday morning, she was up eating breakfast and sitting in a chair.  How amazing is that?!  The doctor said she did 110% better than expected!  Besides the wonderfully skilled doctors who performed the surgery and the professional staff, I believe the power of prayer, positive energy, and faith added to the success of her outcome.  Her Facebook wall was flooded with well wishes.  All of her family, friends, and co-workers were praying for her.  It seems when both individual and collective prayers are combined, they are very powerful.  I believe when we all come together and provide positive support, we can truly impact each other’s lives.

The Excellence of Love

Standard

I have always associated the month of February with love,  hence I felt the following message would be appropriate for today:

1If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Show Up

Standard

I know there are many people who struggle with the belief in God (I have been there). Some of us have the attitude, when I see it, I will believe it. But I have come to learn over the years, it’s actually quite the opposite; when you believe it, you will see it. I can tell you, truthfully, that I have so many experiences to justify my belief in God. These miracles started showing up when I started showing up, when I made the choice to believe FIRST. Things started going my way, because I put my faith and trust in God first. Life is easier now because I know that I am constantly being guided by a higher power. The stronger my belief is, the better I am becoming emotionally, spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and financially. When a situation comes about, I keep in mind that God is in control and has a plan. So I ask you this simple question:  what do you have to lose? If you are not satisfied, you can go back to the way you were living. I can promise you that you have so much to gain and life will be more fulfilling and will seem effortless when you MAKE GOD PRIORITY.  ~dp

Focus on What’s Right

Standard

We will experience many obstacles in life.  Usually, our first reaction is to resist what is happening.  We also want to know why it is happening.  What we really need to do is focus on getting though the situation and to think positive about what we can learn from it.  It’s a growing experience.  We may come to find out later or we may never know.  Our faith is being put to the test.

Awakening

Standard

I am writing this in honor of Groundhog Day. Waking up can be a very slow process. It’s kind of like when the groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerges from his hole, he sees his shadow and scurries right back in. It is then predicted that there will be six more weeks of winter-like weather. We know what is good for us, but change can be a little frightening. The good news is we are taking that first step toward change. At least we are coming out of our dark holes.  According to today’s news, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, therefore, an early spring is in the forecast!  When we keep moving forward and stepping out in faith, doors will open to new opportunities to use our gifts and develop relationships.

You Can Move Mountains!

You Can Move Mountains!

Positive thinking is when we have faith and trust in the guiding hand of the universe. Faith is belief not based on proof. Confidence, self-assurance, and certainty is having faith. Faith is when we allow everything to unfold exactly the way it should. It’s not about everything turning out the way we want it to. It’s about accepting things no matter how it turns out. When there is absence of fear and doubt, and when we let go of resistance and control, we can learn to trust and have faith.

Faith, Hope, and Love

Standard

Despite the tragedies in this world, there still exists the wonder of it all:  the beauty, the aliveness, the stillness, the love, and the miracles. The miracles are what keep us in joy and in faith and bring us closer to our Creator.  My hope for all is that we are conscious of and witness and experience many miracles in the coming new year and all through life.

What Are You Afraid of?

Standard

Fear

Fear is the most unpleasant, distressing, painful feeling anyone can experience. Fear is caused by worry or thought of possible danger, evil, or a threat. Fears may come from personal history and/or can be learned from experiences.  Wikipedia provided the top 10 types in the U.S. by a 2005 Gallup poll and Bill Tancer’s published list in 2008:

“In a 2005 Gallup poll (U.S.A.), a national sample of adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 were asked what they feared the most. The question was open-ended and participants were able to say whatever they wanted. The top ten fears were, in order: terrorist attacks, spiders, death, being a failure, war, criminal or gang violence, being alone, the future, and nuclear war.

In an estimate of what people fear the most, book author Bill Tancer analyzed the most frequent online queries that involved the phrase, “fear of…” following the assumption that people tend to seek information on the issues that concern them the most. His top ten list of fears published 2008 consisted of flying, heights, clowns, intimacy, death, rejection, people, snakes, failure, and driving.”

By understanding and confronting your fears (also called exposure therapy), you can gain better control of your life. You have the courage to overcome your fears. Most importantly, have faith and trust in God and in yourself that everything will be all right.

Answer this Question

Standard

Does God exist?  Several years ago, I asked myself this question.  I was raised Catholic and said I believed in God, but did I really?  It is difficult for many of us to understand why there are tragedies and so much grief in this world if there truly is a God.  My personal experiences in life have brought me to believe that God does exist and loves us.  The missing link and puzzle pieces have finally come together.  The things I have always craved in life are happening effortlessly for me now.  Why?  Because I have strong faith and belief in God.  Does God exist?  No one can answer that question for you but you.
