Simply and Sincerely

Standard

When you know in your heart that you’ve said something or done something to hurt someone unintentionally (or intentionally for that matter), you should apologize. Sometimes, we will even turn it around and place blame on the other person just so that we can justify our behavior. Don’t let your ego get in the way. Simply and sincerely say you’re sorry. Nine times out of ten, that’s all the other person really wants to hear.

Simple Truths

Standard

Below are five Yogic Sutras of the Aquarian Age given to us by Yogi Bhajan. A sutra is a ‘knot.’ It is a complex spiritual concept reduced to one sentence and later expanded upon by a spiritual teacher. Sutras allowed sacred teachings to be protected from harm (by appearing harmless to conquerors) and were brief enough to be remembered by students in ancient times.”

1. Recognize that the other person is you.

We can only truly see ourselves reflected in another person. If we admire qualities in another, we are only seeing those same qualities in ourselves. These qualities may not yet be developed or expressed. On the flip side, if we see qualities that we dislike in another—again, we are only seeing ourselves—perhaps a disowned part called the shadow.

The more we identify with our ego, the more judgmental we will be toward others and the more we will project our own personality traits onto others.  We are being called to take full responsibility for our experiences and to live the Truth—we are ALL ONE.

Reflection: Just for one day, own everything (good and bad) that you see in another person.

2. When the time is on you, start, and the pressure will be off.

The way that we perceive time is an illusion. There is no past and no future—only the present—Now. Time is only consciousness moving.

This expansion of consciousness is pressurizing you to change, grow, and evolve on your soul’s journey. It is foolish to hold back this process with procrastination. In truth, we all know within our deepest selves what changes need to be made.

Worry and stress about ‘what if’ scenarios will only lead to more suffering and paralysis. This is the mind’s play and you’ll end up like a dog chasing its tail.

Reflection: The Universe is change. Change is constant so why not embrace it? It is time for you to make changes in your life. Take the first step, no matter how small, and you will feel the pressure immediately start to ease up. This will give you the momentum to keep changing and growing.

3. Vibrate the Cosmos; the Cosmos shall clear the path.

All of the Universe is a vibration of energy. We are either vibrating in harmony or disharmony with the Universe. We vibrate frequency through our thoughts, words, actions, emotions, and feelings. What we put out to the Universe we receive back, much like a boom-a-rang.

When life seems to be continually placing blocks along your path and nothing seems to be moving, it may be showing that you are not vibrating in harmony with the Universe. To vibrate with the Universe is to vibrate the higher frequencies of love, compassion, and kindness.

One of the best ways to be in the flow of the Cosmos is through yoga, meditation, and chanting mantra—sacred sounds that attune you to the Universe.

Reflection: Are you in the creative flow of the Universe today? Do you feel that something isn’t moving in your life? Shift the frequency of your thoughts to be more aligned with the Universe. Bring in the higher frequency energy and then watch your path clear!

4. There is a way through every block.

It is guaranteed that challenges come into your life for your spiritual growth and healing. No one is exempt! In fact, the day you have no challenges is the day you are dead. Every challenge, no matter how great or small, has a solution or a way through. This solution, however, doesn’t come from the rational or logical mind. A pros and cons list will not work.

The solution will come bubbling to the surface through your intuition. How do you know the difference between intuition and thoughts from the mind? Intuition is neutral in energy; there is no judgment, no ‘shoulds,’ and no fear. Intuition is the creative energy. It is like a small soft voice in your ear.

Reflection: As you face a challenge in your life, take a moment and remember that there is a way through every block. Breathe long and deep for a few minutes and wait for the answer to come. Start acting from your intuition and trust that you will be guided to the next best step for you!

5. Understand through compassion or you will misunderstand the times.

We are being called to move out of the motto, “What’s in it for me?” and  into this motto, “How can my actions benefit the whole?”

Compassion is learning and acting from the heart. If we choose to go into judgment or look away from the suffering of our fellow human beings, we are misunderstanding the times. It is only the ego and mind that keep us separate from one another and in denial of the truth.

We are ONE human tribe on planet Earth, all of us brothers and sisters connected by ONE spirit. We are here on this planet to serve, uplift and help one another.

Reflection: Keep your heart open today as you approach people and challenges. Resist the urge to go into the mind and ego to become separate. Remember to look into the eyes of others to see the same light that lives in us all.

Dying for Attention

Standard

So… how many likes/views/comments did your post/video get?  Who won the gold in the Olympics?  Which team is the best in football/baseball/hockey?  Who won the photo contest?  Who is the most beautiful, talented woman in the world?  I wonder what would happen if we took away all the needless competition?  I believe in striving for excellence and doing the best we can, but we go to extremes for attention and approval from others.  We should appreciate and take advantage of the unique, individual talents we possess, but why do we have to prove them to the world?  When we do get the most votes and win a contest, are we any happier?  It seems that our egos still need fed, and the bigger the ego, the more attention it demands.  Can we ever be proud and satisfied with who and what we are without any doubt or approval from others?  My grandson demands a lot of attention, and he is only five years old.  He always says, “Watch me Grammie. Look at what I can do.”  Constant praise and reassurance that he is so great and loved by so many people builds his self-esteem.

The presidential campaign has gotten way out of line. Yes, this country definitely needs leadership, and the American people have the privilege to vote for the most qualified candidate.  However, the process needs improvement, and the candidates should be presented in a respectful and honorable manner.  Attacking, bashing, or criticism from the candidates, public, or media should be prohibited.  We should be focused on the positive aspects and qualifications instead of who is the most flawed.

Four Cardinal Virtues

Standard

Dr. Wayne Dyer:

“Some 2,500 years ago, Lao-tzu spoke of the four cardinal virtues and noted that when we practice them as a way of life, we come to know and access the truth of the universe. These four virtues don’t represent external dogma, but a part of our original nature—by practicing them, we realign with Source and access the powers that Source energy has to offer. According to the teachings of Lao-tzu, the four cardinal virtues represent the surest way to leave habits and excuses behind and reconnect to your original nature. The more your life is harmonized with the four virtues, the less you’re controlled by the uncompromising ego.

The First Cardinal Virtue:  Reverence for All Life

The first cardinal virtue manifests in your daily life as unconditional love and respect for all beings in creation. This includes making a conscious effort to love and respect yourself, as well as to remove all judgments and criticisms. Understand that you are a piece of God, and since you must be like what you came from, you are lovable, worthy, and Godlike. Affirm this as often as you can, for when you see yourself in a loving way, you have nothing but love to extend outward. And the more you love others, the less you need old excuse patterns, particularly those relating to blame.

The Second Cardinal Virtue:  Natural Sincerity

This virtue manifests itself as honesty, simplicity, and faithfulness; and it’s summed up by the popular reminder to be true to yourself. Using an excuse to explain why your life isn’t working at the level you prefer isn’t being true to yourself—when you’re completely honest and sincere, excuses don’t even enter into the picture. The second virtue involves living a life that reflects choices that come from respect and affection for your own nature. Make truth your most important attribute. Walk your talk; that is, become sincere and honest in all that you say and do. If you find this to be a challenge, take a moment to affirm: I no longer need to be insincere or dishonest. This is who I am, and this is how I feel. When you know and trust yourself, you also know and trust the Divinity that created you. If you live from honesty, sincerity, and faithfulness to the callings of your spirit, you’ll never have occasion to use excuses.

The Third Cardinal Virtue:  Gentleness

This virtue personifies one of my favorite and most frequently employed maxims: “When you have the choice to be right or to be kind, always pick kind.” So many of your old thinking habits and their attendant excuses come out of a need to make yourself right and others wrong. When you practice this third virtue, you eliminate conflicts that result in your need to explain why you’re right. This virtue manifests as kindness, consideration for others, and sensitivity to spiritual truth.

Gentleness generally implies that you no longer have a strong ego-inspired desire to dominate or control others, which allows you to move into a rhythm with the universe. You cooperate with it, much like a surfer who rides with the waves instead of trying to overpower them. Gentleness means accepting life and people as they are, rather than insisting that they be as you are. As you practice living this way, blame disappears and you enjoy a peaceful world.

The Fourth Cardinal Virtue:  Supportiveness

This virtue manifests in your life as service to others without any expectation of reward. Once again, when you extend yourself in a spirit of giving, helping, or loving, you act as God acts. As you consider the many excuses that have dominated your life, look carefully at them—you’ll see that they’re all focused on the ego: I can’t do this. I’m too busy or too scared. I’m unworthy. No one will help me. I’m too old. I’m too tired.  Now imagine shifting your attention off of yourself and asking the universal mind How may I serve? When you do so, the message you’re sending is: I’m not thinking about myself and what I can or can’t have. Your attention is on making someone else feel better.”

What’s on Your Bucket List?

Standard

What is important to you in life? Is it being famous, owning a big house and a fancy new car, or maybe having a large family?  Are there specific goals you would like to achieve such as writing a book, earning a college degree, owning a successful business, weighing a certain amount, etc.? Many of us have met our goals. Are you satisfied, or are you ready to tackle another one? Some of us create bucket lists of things that we feel the need to do before the end of life. People are jumping out of airplanes, surfing 10-foot waves, skiing from the highest mountaintops, etc. Do these things satisfy the ego or the spirit? The #1 goal on everyone’s list should be self-improvement, because then everything else will fall into place. I can honestly say there is nothing more fulfilling and gratifying in life than improving yourself mentally and spiritually and helping others do the same. You will have such a peace within and clearly understand that the things in life you didn’t accomplish won’t really matter.

The Devil Made Me Do It

Standard

The urge to satisfy a short-term need for pleasure can lead to long-term, negative effects on life.  Do not be deceived by your thoughts and temptations of the ego.  When you are being put to the test, and it is against your better judgment, you have the power within you to resist temptation.  Always practice self-control and make the right choices.

EGO

Standard

Does the ego help or hinder us? Some people believe the ego gives us that drive to do more and get more. Others believe it has no purpose and can be overpowering and destructive. When any particular part of us becomes off-balance, we could have problems. It is good to achieve our goals and get what we want in life but not to the point of doing harm to others and even ourselves. An inflated ego is unstable and fearful and likes to be in control at all times and the center of attention. It lives by comparisons and clashes with other big egos. The ego is easily recognizable in others, but it can also be subtle. When we give to a good cause, is it for praise and recognition or are we giving from our hearts? Is your ego controlling your life? When you let your heart and intuition guide you, you will be happy and still succeed in life.
