Of course, it is easy to dictate what is right and what is wrong; what to do and what not to do; but we must be mindful of our own thoughts and actions. It is a wonderful experience to help other people, but I also believe we have to be cognizant of applying our teachings in our own daily lives. After so many years of habitual thinking, I still catch myself reverting back to the same negative thought patterns. Since I am aware of this now, I am able to quickly dismiss them or change them into positive thoughts. I am a disciplined person, and I am improving my life every day. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:1–2).
When we are not our best selves, we can view people, things, and situations in a negative way. If we want to transform our lives, we have to renew our minds. When we change our way of thinking, we can discern what is true and righteous.
Parents beware: your children watch every move you make inside the home and outside the home. Right now, they are absorbing everything there is to know about life. Please be good role models for them, because they are depending on you to teach them all that you know. This is good, because you can actually mold them into becoming great adults. Your children are going to grow up being like you. So, are you happy and content? Do you like yourself? Are you a calm and patient person or are you uptight and anxious? Do you have manners, and are you polite and respectful toward others? How do you react to negative situations? Do you eat healthy food, and are you active? Maybe you need to change in some areas so that you can be the best role models you can be for your children. This is the perfect time to do so while they are still young and wanting to learn. Do it for you and them, because they need your guidance. Be very grateful for your children. They are blessings from God!
The urge to satisfy a short-term need for pleasure can lead to long-term, negative effects on life. Do not be deceived by your thoughts and temptations of the ego. When you are being put to the test, and it is against your better judgment, you have the power within you to resist temptation. Always practice self-control and make the right choices.
With the many decisions and challenges we face every day, how do we achieve inner peace? Inner peace starts with self-acceptance. When you feel good about yourself and be yourself, you will have peace within. Have faith and confidence that things will work out and stay calm during a storm. The less you react to negative situations, the more peaceful your life will be. Take time for yourself. Simplify your life. Meditation is the best practice for peace, relaxation, and connection to the source of all life.
A horrific crime recently occurred in the state of WV where four people were shot dead and the shooter ended up taking his own life. My question is how does someone reach a breaking point in life and do something this severe? Our minds can be very powerful and conjure up a great story, if we let them. Our minds can even provide complete justification for the story. Now there may be some truth to the story, but our minds seem to magnify it. To control our actions, we must be aware of what we are thinking. Because our thoughts can take us for a ride. Most importantly, we need to realize that not all of our thoughts are true, even though they are a part of us. We need to ignore the negative thoughts and focus on the positive ones. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all involved in this incident and hope they quickly recover during this difficult time.
How would you describe yourself? What is underneath the mask… the essence of who you are? You were created perfectly, although at times, you may have contradicting thoughts about this. But those thoughts are not who you really are. Your job is to rise above those thoughts and declare that you are whole. When defining who you are, use the two words “I am.” These two small but very powerful words are stating a fact that is already true. You just need to realize it, especially when those negative thoughts sneak in. Below are just a few examples of what I am. The list goes on and on because I am a wonderful human being, and so are you.
